What to expect? 

A packed hour of art 

A visit to The Art Hour lasts exactly one hour. Every 20 minutes, a maximum of eight visitors can enjoy this intimate experience. It is therefore essential that you book in advance on the website and also that you arrive on time!

Art experience like no other 

The artworks are lit up one by one. Wearing headphones, visitors listen to the music and stories. The narrators are well-known or lesser-known Flemish celebrities who are projected next to the artwork. They talk about their connection with the artwork or the artist.

Historical location 

The setting for this extraordinary exhibition is the Chapel of the Holy Spirit (Heilige Geestkapel) and the adjoining House of the Holy Spirit (Heilige Geesthuis) in Mechelen. The chapel dates from the end of the thirteenth century and has been a listed building since 1938. The chapel is located opposite St Rumbold’s Cathedral on the corner of Minderbroedersgang.

Belgian masterpieces 

The masterpieces by Belgian artists date date from the period 1850–1950, a remarkably rich era marked by a wide variety of artistic movements. More than half of the paintings come from private collections and have rarely been shown to the public. The remaining works are on loan from museums.

The building is accessible via a removable 80 cm wide steep ramp. The entrance door is quite heavy, but there is always a receptionist available to assist. The reception desk is partially lowered. Inside, there is sufficient free circulation space. The passageways are wide enough, and the doors open automatically. There is a ramp to enable passage between the 2nd and 3rd exhibition rooms. Foldable museum chairs and two wheelchairs are available. The accessible toilet is equipped with grab bars. Assistance is always available if needed.
