In the late 15th and early 16th centuries, Mechelen was the place-to-be for administrators, artists, philosophers, scientists ... At that time the town was the administrative and legal capital of the Burgundian Netherlands, and in 1507 the influential Margaret of Austria settled here. Thereafter, Mechelen became a political, intellectual and cultural centre. You can still see that glory 500 years later, for example in the impressive city palaces.
By taking part in different experience elements in the city, you can relive the Mechelen glory days yourself. What if you could eavesdrop on the Mechelen of 1473? You will discover this during the listening walk ‘If walls could talk’ and the accompanying treasure hunt for families with children.
